In the decade of the sixties an urgent need to focus on nutrition related issues was felt. The enormity of the task warranted the need for a focused body which would adopt a balanced perspective on all the issues and provide a stimulus in the right direction. The Protein Foods & Nutrition Development Association of India (PFNDAI) had its genesis in this need.
